Straightening ‘crossed eyes’
Misdirection of the two eyes is termed squint (strabismus).
Squint is many a times the only sign in a very small child of life-threatening conditions like Retinoblastoma.
If not treated at the appropriate time, a condition called amblyopia (lazy eye) develops, which eventually leads to permanent decrease in vision. So, what is the best time? As early as possible and before the child is 8 years of age.
Many a time’s children with squint are socially ostracized by their friends and this leads to an inferiority complex.
Depending on the cause, various modalities of treatment include spectacles, eye exercises and surgery.
More than a thousand squint surgeries have been done at MGM Eye Institute.
