At MGM Eye Institute, we are deeply committed to bridging the gap in accessible eye care through our extensive community outreach and service initiatives. Guided by our mission to provide advanced, equitable, and affordable eye care, we have been at the forefront of community ophthalmology since our inception in 2004.
Recognizing the challenges faced by rural and underserved populations, we have taken proactive steps to deliver quality eye care services directly to their doorsteps. Our outreach programs have been instrumental in raising awareness about eye health, encouraging preventive measures, and mitigating preventable blindness. By partnering with local organizations and Sponsors, we aim to ensure that even the most remote communities benefit from our eye care services.
Our journey began with eye check-up camps in various districts, including Janjgir-Champa and Jagdalpur. In 2015, we formalized these efforts through the launch of the Anjor Mela initiative. We have since established vision centers in Simga, and Shivrinarayan, serving as key touchpoints for primary eye care. These centers not only focus on cataract detection, as emphasized in the National Program for Control of Blindness, but also address other critical eye conditions such as glaucoma and retinal diseases.
To date, our community service programs have had a profound impact across 18 districts of Chhattisgarh and parts of Madhya Pradesh and Odisha. Highlights include:
At MGM Eye Institute, our unique approach to comprehensive eye examination goes far beyond cataract treatment. We recognize that a significant portion of blindness is caused by conditions such as Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma, Oculoplasty, Corneal disorders etc. and as part of our commitment to providing inclusive and accessible healthcare, we ensure that patients suffering from these non-cataract-related eye conditions receive the necessary treatment at no cost. Since our establishment in 2004, we have successfully performed 41,187 cataract surgeries, and treated an additional 7,371 patients for various other causes of blindness, helping to restore sight and enhance the quality of life for many individuals. This holistic and patient-centric approach remains at the core of our mission to address all aspects of eye health, ensuring that every individual receives the care they deserve. Our approach goes beyond addressing immediate medical needs. From providing free transportation, accommodation, and meals to patients, to conducting complex surgeries free of cost, we strive to remove barriers that prevent individuals from accessing the care they need. Whether it’s cataracts, glaucoma, or intricate retinal surgeries, we are dedicated to restoring vision and hope to those who need it most.
Looking ahead, we aim to expand our network of vision centers and establish a secondary care center to meet the unmet demand in eye care. By doing so, we aspire to create a sustainable and far-reaching model of community service that continues to transform lives across the region.
