Community Outreach

For an institute that aims to provide advanced eye care to the underprivileged sections of the society. Outreach forms an important arm to disseminate information and provide services to the larger population of the state. At MGMEI, the program aims to reach out to communities who for reasons of lack of awareness, support or economic hardships are not able to avail the eye care facilities on their own.

Outreach programs are held at regular intervals with the support of NGO’s, local bodies, village Sarpanch and Community Volunteers. The MGM Outreach team comprising of Optometrist, Vision technicians, Ophthalmic Nurse Assistant, Camp Coordinator etc visits the camp place and do eye screening of the community people and spreads awareness about eye health and eye donation. All those who are economically weak and requiring surgery or other medical intervention are brought to the base hospital for free treatment. Recently MGMEI has named the Community Outreach Programme as “MGM Anjor Mela” and under this banner Outreach Services is being provided in various districts of the state.

The dedicated MGM Outreach team has been providing services to the remotest corner of the state and the results are showing with a gradual increase in the number of non paying patients utilizing our services. Till May 2023, 2628 outreach camps have been conducted in various districts of the State where in 1,32,794 patients have been examined and 34,375 surgeries were performed totally free of cost.

Moreover under School Eye Screening Programme, more than 1000 nos. of School Eye Screening Camps were held and around 1 lakh school children were screened. Under MGM Anjor Mela, the institute is conducting Free Diabetic Retinopathy Camp and Awareness Programme in different districts of the state.
